Belarus condemns US aggression in Syria
Tehran, Belarus strongly condemned the strikes on Syria on 14 April that was delivered using a pretext of an alleged chemical weapon attack near Damascus.
The situation in Syria is actually turning into an interstate armed conflict, which risks leading to further uncontrolled escalation that might go beyond the region, the Belarusian state-run news agency quoted a statement released by the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The US in coordination with France and Britain launched a series of attacks on some targets in Syria early Saturday.
Washington claims that it was a response to an alleged chemical weapon attack near Damascus. The US blames the attack on the government of Syria.
The Belarusian ministry also called on all parties to try to find solutions for the conflicts through dialogue.
The use of prohibited weapons of mass destruction should not be left without consequences. However, the response should be based on unequivocal and verified facts and made in strict compliance with international law. None of these criteria was observed by those who have attacked Syria today, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
We believe that all members of the UN Security Council need to make every effort to fulfill the task assigned to them by the international community to restore and maintain international peace and security, the statement said.
The attacks by the US came hours after a team of fact-finding was sent to Syria by Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to investigate the alleged chemical attack.
