Belarus underlines preserving Iran nuclear deal
Moscow, The Belarusian deputy foreign minister in a meeting with Iranian ambassador to Belarus voiced Minsk's support for international pacts and commitments, calling for preservation of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
At the meeting, Iranian envoy Mostafa Oveisi said the Iran Deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is a multilateral agreement endorsed by the UN Security Council, adding that US President Donald Trump's scrapping of the deal was a blatant violation of the UNSC Resolution 2231. He said all UN Member States are duty-bound to support the deal.
Since the conclusion of the deal, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed 11 times Iran's compliance with its obligations under the deal, Oveisi said, adding that the opposition of the international community to the illegitimate and irrational demands of the US administration indicated the failure of Washington's unilateral and illegal policies.
He also submitted a letter from Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif for his Belarusian counterpart dealing with the official stands of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the JCPOA.
The Belarusian official, Andrei Dapkiunas for his part said preservation of the JCPOA was of great importance for world peace and stability.
Lauding Iran's adherence to the JCPOA, Dapkiunas said in it was necessary for the international community to find a proper way of saving the JCPOA.
