Belgian FM: EU mulling to protect European companies
Tehran, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Didier J.L. Reynders said on Tuesday that the European Union is now mulling to protect active European companies in Iran against US economic sanctions
In an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), he said that Belgium is trying to invest on small-scale businesses through European banks.
Reynders also met the United Nations secretary general to brief him on the latest developments on the JCPOA.
Europe along with China and Russia seek to implement the JCPOA, he said, adding, 'We are to ask the UN to implement the JCPOA while urging the European companies to ease expansion of economic cooperation as well as investment opportunities in Iran.'
There is no need to remind that this will be a very tough job, Reynders added.
US President Donald Trump withdrew from the JCPOA on May 8, and called for re-imposing economic sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran.
