Deputy FM: Iran views relations with Serbia as strategic
Belgrade, IRNA – Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari said in a Tuesday meeting with the Serbian foreign minister that Iran views its relations with Serbia as strategic.
Safari who arrived in Belgrade on Tuesday to attend a ceremony on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) had a meeting with the Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic.
Safari referred to the good level of cooperation between Iran and Serbia in bilateral and multilateral fields, emphasized the need for the continuation of bilateral cooperation in various fields.
The deputy foreign minister for economic diplomacy, meanwhile, in the meeting emphasized on the importance of increasing the bilateral economic ties, proposing that taking advantage of the existing capacities will help in achieving that objective.
The Serbian foreign minister, for his part, referred to the good level of the two countries’ political ties based on friendship and mutual understanding.
He reiterated that "we will also be celebrating the 85th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties with your country".
Selakovic said that the orientation and relations with Iran are quite bright, emphasizing that Serbia is very eager to have political talks with Iran.
He expressed hope that in near future there will be meetings between the two countries at the highest level.
"The friendly relations between Serbia and Iran must be at the service of improving comprehensive cooperation, especially at the bilateral economic ties, such as in agricultural, energy, building construction, and tourism fields," said the Serbian foreign minister.
Selakovic, meanwhile, appreciated Iran's fundamental stances in respecting Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity at international organizations, adding that Belgrade wishes to provide for admitting a larger number of Iranian students in the framework of the ‘world in Serbia’ program.
