EC chairman: Islamophobia, main goal of New Zealand tragedy
Tehran, The main reason behind the recent terrorist attack carried out in New Zealand was to fuel Islamophobia, emphasized Chairman of Iran's Expediency Council Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani.
Speaking during a Council meeting on Saturday, Ayatollah Amoli Larijani said that the Western countries are fanning the flames of Islamophobia despite their human rights claims.
He said that the terrorist incident in New Zealand, which killed at least 49 Muslim worshippers, was very sad and horrible as well as painful for every human being.
Referring to double-standard approach of certain media towards the deadly incident in New Zealand, Amoli Larijani said that some Western media, like the UK state media, did not even use the term of terrorist attack to describe the incident.
Those who call a stabbing attack in the UK a terrorist incident are turning a blind eye to the horrible massacre of 49 innocent Muslims, the Ayatollah said.
At least 49 people have been killed so far, and 50 seriously injured, after gunmen opened fire at two mosques in the New Zealand city of Christchurch on Friday when hundreds of Muslims had gathered to say their prayers.
