Effective legal measure taken by Iran via JCPOA: MP
Tehran, Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh advised officials to push legal course in the Hague Court of Justice by employing strong lawyers, saying Iran conducted an effective legal move through JCPOA.
JCPOA stands for official title of nuclear deal reached between Iran and 5+1 Group in 2015 under which Tehran received sanctions relief in return for limits on nuclear program.
In line with the World Court measure, President of the ICJ Judge Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf has sent an official letter based on Article 74, paragraph 4 of the Court rules, to the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo calling on him to avoid taking any new measure and not to change the conditions.
Talking to IRNA, he added that sending the letter by the court reveals that the international institute considered itself authorized to examine Iran's complaint and this means the issue of sanctions can be followed up through the channel of international law.
Noting that International Court of Justice bears responsibility regarding international claims, he said that most of the cases pertain to Iran-US disputes.
Although JCPOA has strong political aspects, Iran did not enter a power game and took a legal action through the JCPOA, he said.
Islamabad-e Gharb MP reiterated International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) confirmation of Iran's nuclear program on several occasions, saying that European states and other countries, except the US, have hailed Iran's policy of complying with the JCPOA.
In today's world, legal experts are concerned about collapse of the legal regime by the US. Therefore, Presidential Office had better pursue the case using strong lawyers, Falahatpisheh said.
He also hailed Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif's move to file a lawsuit against the US, saying that the move can serve as a prelude to success, on condition that it lead to a ruling against the US.
