Envoy: Iran to expand cooperation with SCO
Beijing, Tehran intends to expand cooperation with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) states as it has had ‘very consolidated and constructive’ cooperation with the SCO members, said Iran’s Ambassador to China on Thursday.
Mohammad Keshavarzadeh made the remark in a meeting with the SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov.
Submitting congratulation message of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif to Norov on his appointment to the SCO chairmanship post, Keshavarzadeh said the leaders and nations of the two civilized countries of Iran and China are decisive to break all the existing barriers to expand their historical relations.
He suggested the SCO to benefit from Iran’s exceptional geopolitical and geo-economic advantages in such important areas as communication, transportation, campaign against terrorism, drugs smuggling and other extra-territorial organized crimes.
He hoped that Iran will attain official SCO membership during Norov’s chairmanship over the Organization and related road map will soon be compiled and implemented for the purpose.
Norov for his part said the SCO secretariat is busy drawing up a mechanism to ensure graver role for the SCO members within framework of upcoming activities.
