Funeral for Iran fisherman killed by UAE slated for Friday
Tehran, The dead body of the Iranian fisherman, who was shot dead by the UAE coast guard police, has been transferred to the country and a funeral procession is scheduled to be held on Friday.
Director General of Bushehr Province Fisheries Office Gholamabbas Zendeboodi told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Thursday that a group of nine Iranian fishermen on an Iranian fishing vessel left the southern port of Bushehr to Persian Gulf waters in September and as they were travelling in the Iranian territorial waters, the United Arab Emirates' coast guards shot one of them dead and injured two others.
The UAE guards then arrested all the remaining Iranian fishermen and along with the dead body of the fishermen, which was later transferred to Iran, took them to the UAE, he added.
He went on to say that Iranian Foreign Ministry looked up for the case and necessary arrangements were made for return of the other eight vessel crew to the country.
He added that the court looking into the case of the captured fishermen ended its session times ago but the exact date of their release is not yet clear.
