German media: Trump measure against IRGC has significant consequences for US
Tehran, The German media on Tuesday assessed the US president's measure against the Revolution Guards an unprecedented step with heavy consequences for the US as well as a donation of Donald Trump to Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu one day before the parliamentary elections.
According to IRNA, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, declared IRGC as part of the Islamic Republic of Iran's armed forces as foreign terrorist organization in an unconventional and unlawful measure on Monday.
In response to this move, the Foreign Minister of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif, in a letter to the president and chairman of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), suggested SNSC lists the US military troops in the West Asia region called 'Centcom' as terrorist groups.
In addition, the Supreme National Security Council also introduced the US government as sponsor of terrorism and the US Central Command, Centcom as terrorist group.
'The US president is pushing for increased pressure on Iran, and this time, by putting the name of the Revolutionary Guards, a classical army, has made another effort,' the German Stern said in a report.
Washington has warned Tehran that its actions will not be unanswered, but this could be the case not only for Iran but also for the US has consequences. It is for the first time that the US government adds an official military unit to the list of terrorist groups in which the names of groups such as alQaeda and Boko Haram are seen, Stern wrote.
' Tagesschau,' other German media, referring to the remarks made yesterday by Trump against ITGC, wrote, 'This includes all units affiliated to the Revolutionary Guards, including the Quds Force.'
This is the first time that 'part of a foreign government' is placed on the blacklist, according to Trump.
This is while Iran is known as the 'Axis of Evil' and sponsor of terrorism since the presidency of George W. Bush.
Tagesschau wrote that with this action, the United States would prohibit all activities of the IRGC in its areas of influence and confiscate its assets and facilities.
Germany's NTV network also reported on Trump's remarks on the Revolutionary Guards, claiming that the military unit has a broad political and economic influence in Iran, and is strongly supported by both radical and moderate groups.
The network added that Iran immediately reacted to the US action, and the National Security Council called the US Central Command, 'Centcom', a terrorist group. With this action by Iran, US forces were also subject to Iranian measures.
