Golij’s bronze medal marks end of Iranian freestyle world competitions

Tehran, IRNA – The bronze medal of Mojtaba Golij, the 97 kg freestyle athlete of the National Iranian Team in his match against his Mongolian competitor marked the end of the Iranian team at Oslo, 2021 World Wrestling Championship in Norway.

The world wrestling competitions in Oslo which started on September 25 will end on October 10 after the top teams and wrestlers are all identified.

In 97 kg weight the gold medal holder in world youth in his first match defeated his Georgian competitor 4-nil and his Moldavian contestant 10-0 to make his way to the quarterfinal match.

He defeated the Kyrgyz freestyle Asian silver medal holder athlete Alishir Yergali 6-1 to reach the semi-final. There he was faced with the world and Olympics champion Schnider Kile from the United States in a close match 3-2 to go to the qualification match.

Golij defeated Batzol Olzisaikhan, the Asian silver medal holder 10-nil in that match to gain Iran’s only bronze medal in the games.
