Guangdong plays important role in Iran-China ties: Iranian consul

Tehran, Iran’s consul general in Guangzhou Hossein Darvishi Motavalli said that China is the first trade and strategic partner of Iran and Guangdong Province plays the main role in trade cooperation between the two countries.

In interview with Guangdong state news website GDToday, Hossein Darvishi Motavalli described the province as a ‘civilized, developed and growing’ one, which is expected to lead closer ties between Iran and Chine on trade, science, and technology.

He pointed to the signing of the comprehensive cooperation plan between Iran and Chine in March, saying that the plan was a road map and a turning point in the new stage of cooperation between Tehran and Beijing.

He said that he believed that Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macau Greater Bay Area is one of the most important regions to feed the new development in the relations between Iran and China.

Talented people and universities in Iran and China can launch joint projects on research and development and commercialize the resulting technology so that they can be brought to market to benefit both sides.

The number of Iranian students in China has increased to 3,000, 20 Chinese centers are active in Iranian studies and 14 Chinese universities have Persian Language in the curriculum, according to the consul general.

He also touched upon Iran-China cooperation on the COVID-19 issues, underlining that Iran was the first country to send face masks to China and China was the first country to help Iran by dispatching a medical delegation.
