Hakim: Iraq opposes weakening Iran
Baghdad, Ammar al-Hakim, leader of the Iraqi National Wisdom Movement, says undermining the Islamic Republic of Iran contradicts interests of the Iraqi nation and government from religious and humanitarian angles.
A report, posted on the National Wisdom Movement website, quoted Hakim as saying that Iraq considers Iran's national interests as its own and weakening Iran will be against interests of the Iraqi nation and government from religious and humanitarian points of view.
He said the Iraqi nation, which has well been enduring the pain and sufferings of tyrannical siege in the 1990s, is now announcing its solidarity with the Iranian nation in condemning the tyrannical measures.
He said the policy of intimidation and economic blockade of nation is wrong and such unfair measures are inhuman and uncivilized.
'We believe that Iran's weakening is neither in interest of Iraq nor any of the regional states and the aftershocks of such measure will not be limited to Iran, but engulfing the entire region. We have informed all the domestic, regional and international parties of our opposition against the economic sanction policies and urge all to take steps towards dialogue, negotiations and mutual understanding to solve problems free from tension.'
