Hormozgan customs’ sponge iron, steel exports hit $508m
Over $508 million dollars of sponge iron and steel have been exported through the province's customs in the first seven months of the current Iranian calendar year (beginning on March 21), said the head of Hormozgan provincial Industry, Mine, and Trade Organization.
The figure is equivalent to over one million tons of products, constituting half of the province's exports, said Khalil Qassemi in an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
The major part of the exports was destined to Thailand, Brazil, Indonesia, China, and Italy, he added.
Hormozgan Province is expected to experience three billion dollars of non-oil exports by the yearend.
With three steel manufacturing companies and the capacity of producing over five million tons of steel, Hormozgan is the third major producer of steel in the country.
