Increase of int’l co-op in nuclear energy, major point of 6th report on JCPOA: Senior MP
Tehran, July 18, Promotion of international cooperation with Iran in the field of nuclear energy based on the Annex III of the historic nuclear deal is the important point mentioned in the latest report of the Foreign Ministry about implementation of the nuclear deal, said an Iranian lawmaker on Tuesday.
Hossein Naqavi-Hosseini, spokesman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, made the remarks while confirming that the Foreign Ministry on Monday presented its sixth report on implementation of the July 2015 landmark nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to the Iranian parliament.
Foreign Ministry has to brief the Iranian lawmakers on the process of the JCPOA implementation every three months since the announcement of the 'Implementation Day' of the JCPOA on January 16, 2016.
After receiving the Foreign Ministry's report on the JCPOA, the lawmakers start to review it with no deadline, said Naqavi-Hosseini.
He added that in the post-JCPOA era, Iran and the European Union (EU) have inked a mutual agreement on nuclear safety, which has prepared the ground for scientific cooperation with the EU member states.
Referring to the construction project for an ion therapy center that started in Iran with the cooperation of a modern European country, the parliamentarian said it is another major development in the area of peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The JCPOA's Annex III refers to the Civil Nuclear Cooperation.
Iran and E3/EU+3 decided to co-operate, among others, including through IAEA technical cooperation, where appropriate, and without prejudice to the existing bilateral agreements, in different areas of civil nuclear co-operation to be developed within the framework of this JCPOA, as detailed in this Annex. In this context, the Joint Commission will also support assistance to Iran, including through IAEA technical cooperation projects, as appropriate, it said.
