Iran announces public mourning in floodhit region
Shiraz, Governorate general of southwestern province of Fars announced one day of public mourning following death of 18 people in the recent flood.
The Fars province’s governorate general in a message released on its website declared Thursday as the day of public mourning in the floodeffected region.
Unprecedented heavy rains on Monday in the southern city of Shiraz killed at least 18 people and injured and displaced a large number of people.
The Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in a message to Shiraz’s Friday prayer leader Dejkam expressed his grievances over the disaster and wished the injured people a quick recovery.
The leader also called on all officials to mobilize all power and capabilities for relief operations.
The crisis has coincided with the twoweek New Year holidays that are considered as the peak of trips in the Iranian provinces.
