Iran calls for serious fight against drug trafficking
Tehran� Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Sunday called for collective and serious fight against drug trafficking and drug production across the globe.
'Effective fight against drug needs fighting main sources of this current,' Larijani made the remarks before departure to Moscow to attend the international anti-drug conference in Russia dubbed as 'Parliamentary Members vs. Drugs'.
He referred to increase of drug production in Afghanistan despite NATO claim for fighting the drug cultivation in the country and said that drug smuggling is a source for financing terrorist groups.
The official called for the regional parliaments' action to eradicate the root causes of drug smuggling.
According to the Russian Tass News Agency, lawmakers from 44 countries will attend the international conference dubbed 'Parliamentary Members vs. Drugs' that will be held in the State Duma on December 4, State Duma Vice Speaker and head of the United Russia faction Sergey Neverov said at a briefing in the run-up to the forum.
