Iran defense minister: Fight against terrorists in Syria at final stage
Damascus, Fight against terrorism in Syria under the leadership of the country and Resistance Front forces is at its final stage, Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier-General Amir Hatami said on Sunday.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart in Damascus, Hatami said, 'Islamic Republic of Iran respects the sustainable security and territorial integrity of regional countries.'
Noting that Iran has had good relations with Syria in all areas over the past 40 years, the minister said that Syria stood by Iran and its leadership during the eight-year Iraqi imposed war on Iran, and Tehran, too, supported the Syrian government and nation from the very beginning of the war against terrorism.
Iran's private sector, with its high capabilities, is ready to help the Syrian government and nation in reconstruction of the country, Hatami said.
Iran is also highly capable in the area of defensive power and can help Syria to strengthen its military equipment.
The Syrian defense minister, said for his part, that an international war was planned against Syria since around eight years ago which was brought to failure with the support of Resistance Front.
Iran has had an important role in rooting out terrorism in Syria, General Ali Abdullah Ayoub said, adding that Damascus has to be grateful of these helps.
Most parts of Syria have now been cleared from terrorists and the Syrian Army will soon take control of Idlib province too.
Iran defense minister arrived in Damascus for a two-day visit earlier in the day.
Mostafa Kavakebian, a member of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission as well as some Iranian military officials are accompanying the defense minister in his visit to Syria.
A meeting between the Iranian defense minister and Syrian President Bashar Assad has begun.
