Geneva: Ali Bahraini, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, has called for immediate and comprehensive sanctions against Israel, citing ongoing genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Bahraini addressed the 60th session of the Human Rights Council, highlighting the alleged complicity of Western governments in Israeli actions.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the session focused on reviewing a new report regarding corporate activities in Israel’s illegal settlements. During his address, Bahraini referred to an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice, asserting that Israeli policies violate Palestinian rights.
Bahraini’s speech emphasized the findings of the Commission of Inquiry (COI), which has determined that genocide is occurring. He pointed to patterns of conduct and statements by Israeli officials as evidence of genocidal intent, a serious legal matter under the Genocide Convention. He reminded all States Parties of their obligation to prevent and punish genocide and to refrain from aiding its commission.
He condemned the alleged genocide and Western complicity, advocating for comprehensive sanctions against Israel. He concluded by underscoring the importance of speaking out against genocide, asserting that silence cannot erase such crimes.
