Iran desires extraordinary ties with Pakistan: FM Zarif

Islamabad, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says that Iran wants a unique and extraordinary relationship with neighboring Pakistan.

Zarif expressed these views during a meeting with Speaker of Pakistan's National Assembly Asad Qaiser in Islamabad on Thursday evening.

The Iranian foreign minister arrived in Islamabad today on a two-day official visit to hold talks with Pakistani leadership on bilateral relations and regional situation.

Zarif expressed the hope that relations between Iran and Pakistan would grow during the tenure of new government in Pakistan led by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He acknowledged Pakistan's sacrifices and achievements in war against terrorism, adding that Pakistan is an important partner of Iran in bringing regional peace.

He said that it is matter of great honor for 'us that we have come to Pakistan as first foreign delegation since the formation of new government in the country.'

Zarif also conveyed a message of goodwill to the Pakistani Speaker from his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani saying that it is very encouraging to see that elected representatives of our brothers and sisters have come to the Parliament after holding a successful elections in Pakistan.

He added that all Pakistani friends are like brothers for the Iranian people and 'we do not consider the Pakistani people separate from us.' There are special and unusual relations between the two countries and the people, he said.

During the meeting the Pakistani Speaker said 'We are honored to host high level Iranian delegation after the formation of new government in Pakistan.'

Asad Qaisar further said that Pakistan believes in the unity of the Ummah and the role of Iran is extremely important in this regards.

He further added that when he was the speaker of the provincial assembly, he visited the cities of Tehran and Isfahan. He added that he also visited the Mausoleum of Founder of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khomeini.

He emphasized that stronger ties between Iran and Pakistan are inevitable for peace and stability in the region.
