Iran dispatches first aid to quake-hit Afghanistan

Tehran, IRNA – Iran on Wednesday flew two planes carrying first aid to Afghanistan where a massive earthquake struck earlier in the day.

The announcement was made by the Iranian Embassy in Kabul.

So far, at least 1,000 people have been confirmed dead in the 6.1 magnitude earthquake.

Afghanistan’s disaster management officials say more than 600 others have been injured too.

The earthquake struck near the southeastern city of Khost, near the border with Pakistan.

It was the deadliest quake to hit Afghanistan in 20 years.

The tremor was also felt in Pakistan and India.
