Iran, Iraq stress support for Syria’s past regional role
Baghdad, Iran and Iraq have reiterated their support for the revival of Syria's role in the region before the war broke out in the Arab country in 2011.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Iraqi counterpart Mohammad AlHakim discussed during hourslong talks in Baghdad that both countries support efforts to help Syria regain its previous regional role.
'Both Iran and Iraq share same vision about Syria's territorial integrity, fight against terrorism as well the country's presence in regional and international mechanisms,' Zarif said on Sunday.
The Iranian foreign minister thanks Iraq's advance role in Syrian resolution, saying the Islamic Republic of Iran supports Iraq's role and efforts in this regard'.
Iraqi Foreign Minister alHakim said the two officials talked extensively about Syria.
He stressed that both countries share the same view about fighting terrorism and Daesh on the Syrian soil, the country's territorial integrity and recovering Damascus' seat in the Arab League.
