Iran-Iraq-Syria military drill necessary: MP
Baghdad, An Iraqi lawmaker said that a joint military drill by Tehran, Baghdad and Damascus is necessary as it will thwart the US excessive demands.
Holding a joint military drill by Iran, Iraq and Syria on their shared borders is necessary to prevent the US from imposing its demands and expanding influence in the region, Haneen Qaddou recently told Iraqi news agency Al-Maalomah.
The Iraqi lawmaker noted that Baghdad is resolved to hold such a drill to assess its capabilities and preparedness for guaranteeing the security of borders without intervention of foreign forces.
Iraq's security is intertwined with those of Syria and Iran, and holding the joint military exercise is in the interest of all countries in the region, Qaddou said.
The remarks by the Iraqi lawmaker comes at a time Iran's Chief of Staff Brigadier General Mohammad Baqeri is paying a high profile visit to Damascus to participate in the trilateral meeting of Iraq, Iran and Syria on the fight against terrorism.
