Iran, Lebanon underline political solution for Syrian crisis
Beirut, Aug 21, Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari met Lebanese Foreign Minister Gibran Bassil on Monday.
In the meeting, the two sides supported Astana Talks on Syria and underlined the need to politically settle the crisis in Syria.
Jaberi Ansari in continuation of his meetings with Lebanese officials met Gibran Bassil on Monday noon and discussed ways to develop bilateral cooperation, developments in Lebanon and regional issues.
Jaberi Ansari, in the meeting, which Iran's Ambassador to Lebanon Mohammad Fathali was present as well, presented a report on Iran's efforts in interaction with other partners in Syrian Talks in Astana, Kazakhstan, to end the Syrian crisis and said that solving Syrian crisis needs help and assistance of Lebanon and other regional countries.
He expressed the hope that through cooperation between Iranian and Lebanese foreign ministries, programs for future visit of President Michel Aoun to be set that the visit will be a beginning for the expansion of cooperation in all fields between the two countries.
President Michel Aoun in meeting Jaberi Ansari on Monday said that he will accept invitation of his Iranian counterpart to visit Iran.
The Lebanese foreign minister appreciated Iran's support for Lebanon in the field of confrontation against terrorism, and said that establishment of ceasefire and creation of reduced tension regions in Syria in the framework of Astana Talks helped Lebanon in direction of victory on terrorism.
The two sides underlined the necessity for deepening and expanding bilateral relations as well as continuation of consultations and talks in mutual grounds and regional issues.
