Iran min. lauds health achievements in past 40 years
Moscow, Iranian health minister has hailed the achievements made in the health sector in the past four decades.
Primary healthcare system was developed in Iran after the country's 1979 revolutioin and the system covered the entire country, Iranian Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi said.
He made the remarks in a public panel, held on the sidelines of a conference marking the 40th anniversary of Declaration of Alma-Ata on Thursday.
Despite the eight years of war imposed on Iran during the former Iraqi dictator Saddam, Iran met its obligations and built 20,000 health care centers across the country, the minister added.
The Iranian health minister met also with his Russian counterpart Veronika Skvortsova on the sidelines of the confrence.
The Declaration of Alma-Ata was adopted at the International Conference on Primary Health Care, Almaty, Kazakhstan, 612 September 1978. It expressed the need for urgent action by all governments, all health and development workers, and the world community to protect and promote the health for all.
