Iran minister congratulates young chess player on world title
Tehran, Iranian Minister of Sport and Youth, Masoud Soltanifar has hailed the world title won by young chess player Parham Maghsoodloo at the World Junior Chess Championship.
Soltanifar said, during a meeting on Monday with Maghsoodloo that his ministry will provide all-out support for the young chess player expecting him to win more world titles in the future.
The tenth and the penultimate round of the World Junior Chess Championship was held in Turkey on Friday (Sept 14).
Maghsoodloo defeated Russia's Maksim Vavulin and could become world champion for the first time in Iran's history.
He scored 9�/10, with a round to spare, securing his trophy.
Many illustrious chess players, including grandmaster Susan Polgar, first female player to break the gender barrier and to win the world championship, have praised Maghsoodloo's outstanding performance.
