Iran Navy 77th fleet in Oman’s Salalah Port: Cmdr

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Army Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said that the Iranian Navy 77th fleet docked at Salalah Port of Oman.

Rear Admiral Irani said on Sunday that one of the most important goals of sending naval fleets to high waters is to secure the transportation and shipping lines of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to the commander, the purpose of docking of the Iranian navy fleet at Salaleh is to send the message of peace and friendship and establish security in the region, as well as to get acquainted with the cultures and strengthen the naval and military relations of the countries.

Meanwhile, Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral said on Saturday – yesterday- that the special forces of the Iranian Army’s Navy fended off a pirate attack on an Iranian cargo ship in the Gulf of Aden in a successful operation.

The Iranian commander said that the 78th flotilla while escorting two Iranian tankers on Saturday morning was attacked by five pirate boats which were repelled by the appropriate and timely reaction of the Iranian Navy’s special forces.

He noted that with the timely action by the Navy’s special forces, the two oil tankers safely crossed the Gulf of Aden and now Iranian and other countries’ vessels are passing through the area safely, adding that so far no particular cases have been observed in the area.
