Iran Navy wards off pirates’ attack on oil tanker

Tehran, Navy forces of the Islamic Republic's Army have foiled the attack of 11 pirate boats on an Iranian oil tanker.

An Iranian oil tanker, targeted on Thursday by 11 pirate boats in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait located in the Gulf of Aden, was rescued by the timely action of the commandos of Iran's 60th Naval fleet.

The rescued tanker, reportedly carrying more than 150,000 tons of oil, safely proceeded its way after the incident.

Over the past few years, naval fleet has escorted more than 400 commercial tankers and has been engaged more than 300 times with pirates, rescuing the Iranian and non-Iranian ship.

The 60th fleet of Iran's Navy, consisting of a Binder destroyer, Bushehr Logistics ship and Lavan warship, was deployed on February on the maritime mission.
