Iran playing important role in Afghanistan econ, security: Afghan Pres
Beijing, Iran has an important role in Afghanistan's security and economic expansion, said Afghan President Ashraf Ghani addressing Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in China on Sunday.
'We will keep negotiating with the regional countries, including Iran, and thank the Iranian president for their cooperation,' said Ghani.
In line with economic expansion of Afghanistan, it is going to connect to the Iranian railroad system, he added.
He said that the world community should look at Afghanistan as an international platform for fighting terrorism, adding that there has been a comprehensive solution about Taleban. He hoped that Taleban will accept the ceasefire.
Ghani also said that the ominous phenomena of terrorism and drug trafficking should be brought to an end.
Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit started with the attendance of Iran President Rouhani in China on Sunday.
The heads of eight member states - China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, and Pakistan - as well as those of the four observer states- Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, and Mongolia are participating in the summit.
The Iranian president is attending the 18th summit upon the invitation by his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
Some senior officials, such as the Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif, Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh, and Minister of Economy Masoud Karbasian are accompanying President Rouhani in the meeting. On the sidelines of the summit, Rouhani will also meet the heads of some member states and international organizations.
'Four documents will be signed on fighting narcotics and organized crimes, Iran's role in 'One Belt, One Road' initiative, stock exchange and security cooperation, and academic cooperation,' Ali-Asghar Khaji, Iran's ambassador to Beijing earlier said.
