IRAN PROTESTS AGAINST GEORGIA FORCING WOMEN PASSENGERS TO REMOVE SCARF

Iran protested against Georgian police's "disrespect" for a number of Iranian female passengers, at the Tbilisi airport, to remove their scarves, Tasnim news agency reported, on Friday.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Bahram Qasemi, said that, Tehran has lodged its strong protest, over the problems, which some Iranian women passengers faced, at the Tbilisi airport.

Iranian female passengers were forced to remove their headscarves, during security checks, for a flight from Tbilisi to Iran's city of Isfahan.

"After the release of a report by the foreign ministry's representative office in Isfahan, and after the report was confirmed through phone contacts by the Iranian ambassador to Georgia ... the Iranian embassy in Tbilisi expressed its strong protest, at the Georgian Foreign Ministry and Tbilisi Airport security police," said Qasemi.

"Among the measures adopted ... relevant Georgian authorities have also been asked to pursue the matter and prevent Iranian passengers from being subjected to such treatment again," he said.

"We hope security police at Tbilisi will exercise utmost care, concerning the necessity of respecting Muslim women's privacy, and keep such incidents from happening again," Qasemi added.
