Iran, Russia to expand sports cooperation
Tehran, Aug 1, President of Iran Football Federation (IFF) Mehdi Taj here Monday evening called for expansion of Iran-Russia sports cooperation during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Taj made the remarks in a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Tehran Levan Jagarian.
Holding mutual friendly matches, employing Russia's capacities for attendance of Iranian nationals in 2018 FIFA World Cup matches and facilitating the attendance process of Iranian sportspeople in Russia were among the major issues discussed during the meeting.
Head coach of Iran's national football team Carlos Queiroz has recently announced that Iran men's national football team, domestically known as Team Melli, is scheduled to play a friendly fixture against Russia as part of preparations for the 2018 Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup.
Queiroz added that the friendly match will be played on October 10.
The 64-year-old Portuguese made the remarks as Team Melli qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Moscow for the second time in a row.
