Iran says use of WMDs against its ideology
Tehran, July 16, IRNAForeign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Sunday that use of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) including nuclear weapons are against Islamic Republic of Iran's ideology.
Speaking to Fareed Zakaria One On 1, talk show in CNN, Zarif referred to use of chemical weapons by former Iraqi dictator Saddam against Iranian nation during the eight-year imposed war (1980-88) and said Iran is a victim of use of chemical weapons.
Zarif said Iran was a victim of chemical weapons but never tried to build such weapons.
Foreign minister said the WMDs are against Islamic Republic of Iran's ideology and they will not promote the country's security.
Accessing the nuclear arms will be a threat to Iran's national security, he stressed.
The peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program has been confirmed several times by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the minister said.
Iran has explicitly declared before and after the nuclear talks that it does not seek to access (nuclear) arms, Zarif added.
He said that the IAEA has rejected the baseless claims on Possible Military Dimension (PMD) of Iran's nuclear program, resulting in closure of Iran's PMD case.
Zarif said that IAEA has confirmed Iran's commitment to its obligations for seven times but the US has not been loyal to its commitments enshrined in the JCPOA.
As one of the major multilateral diplomatic achievements acclaimed by different sides, two years pass of the world's approval of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Being the fruit of a series of difficult and lengthy negotiations between Iran, world's major powers and the European Union (P5+1+EU) over Tehran's nuclear activities, the JCPOA was finally signed by all sides on July 14, 2015 in Vienna.
During the past two years and within the period of the historic deal's implementation, the JCPOA has been facing some ups and downs mostly by one of the sides of the deal which happens to be the US making up excuses and trying to put the deal under question.
Continuing its principled policy to build confidence, Iran has implemented the JCPOA precisely throughout the past 24 months and this can be proved by the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) several reports approving the full implementation of the JCPOA contents by Tehran.
In the Meantime, the European Union has always stressed the full implementation of the JCPOA by all sides including the US.
