Iran stresses development of ties with Qatar

Tehran, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Sunday underlined development of cooperation with Qatar in all fields.

Ali Larijani referred to Qatar's hosting of 140th Ordinary General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its related meetings, and said it proved the fact that the anti-Qatar plots have been foiled.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani which was held on the sidelines of 140th Ordinary General Assembly of the IPU.

Qatar and Iran have strategic relations and the two countries should boost their relations in all fields, Larijani added.

He said that Iran assumes Qatar security and development its own security and development and Tehran supports Doha on all levels.

The Iranian parliament speaker also called for facilitation of visa issuance for the Iranian traders.

The 139th IPU General Assembly announced at its closing session in Geneva in October last year that it will hold its 140th session and its related meetings in Qatar from 6-10 April 2019.

The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt dubbed as the Arab Quartet had submitted a joint statement to the General Secretariat of the IPU during the 139th General Assembly, objecting Qatar's hosting of the 140th General Assembly of the IPU but in spite of their opposition, the country is hosting the international event.
