Iran supporter of peace, security: Envoy
Beijing, April 18, IRNA - Iran has always sought durable peace and security in the region and world, Iran's Acting Ambassador in Tokyo said.
In a ceremony on Iran's National Army Day, Mashallah Shakeri said that the Army, besides other defense forces has been defending the country's integrity and independence.
The ceremony was attended by senior Japanese defense officials, as well as ambassadors and military attaches of various countries.
Thirty years ago on the same day (April 18), the US attacked Iran's oil platforms of Nasr and Salman in the Persian Gulf and the military deployed to the platforms were martyred as a result. Imam Khomeini designated the day as the Army Day in memory of those who sacrificed their lives in defending the country against the aggression.
Military attache at Iran's embassy in Japan Navy Captain Afshin Bokaei said that the Army has reached self-sufficiency in sensitive sectors of military, training, manufacturing and maintenance of military equipment.
He also highlighted the military achievements of the Army.
'Iran's military doctrine is defensive and we have always been seeking to use military capabilities for establishing peace and security in the region and the world,' he said.
