Iran to produce over 1.2m tons of dates this year
Tehran, Iran's date production is expected to reach 1.236 million tons this year, according to an official with the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad.
Referring to consumption of some 5 to 7 kg of dates per capita in Iran, Masoud Latifian said that nearly some 560,000 tons of the product is consumed within the country.
Last year, some 250,000 tons of dates worth $249 million were exported to 85 countries, the official said.
He predicted that with the planning made, Iran's date production will grow to reach 1.6 million tons in 2021, some 287,000 tons of which will be exported � showing a 15% increase.
Iran is the world's fifth top date exporter, having an 11.3% share in the global date market, the official said.
