Iran urges cooperation with Germany on women empowerment
Tehran, An Iranian vice president on Sunday called for improvement of cooperation with Germany on empowering women and girl.
Iran and Germany can have a good cooperation in the field of empowering women economically, Vice President of Iran for Women and Family Affairs Masoumeh Ebtekar said.
She made the remarks in a meeting with German Ambassador to Iran Michael Klor-Berchtold.
The sanctions had a negative effect on Iran's economy, but it has not stopped the Iranian women to continue working, Ebtekar added.
She described the role of Iranian women in the Iranian economy as important, adding that in spite of several sanctions, the Iranian women has been behind production of 75 percent of the handicrafts and 80 percent of the handmade carpets produced in the country.
The official urged the European Union (EU) to adopt a logical approach towards Iran, adding that Iran seeks peace, security and stability.
In the meantime, the German ambassador, for his part, said that in case of the nuclear deal, known also as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Berlin takes sides with Tehran and believes that Iran's expectations from the deal should be met.
All should see the positive image of Iran, he added in reference to the propaganda against Iran.
The envoy added that Germany has programs for supporting the Afghan refugees and the two countries can cooperate in this field.
He referred to the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and World Food Programme's support for the Afghan refugees and urged empowering the Iranian and Afghan girls and women through education.
