Iran warns Iraq’s Kurdistan after border terror attempts

Tehran has officially protested to the Iraqi Kurdistan's authorities following a number of unsuccessful attempts by terror groups based in the semi-autonomous region to break into neighboring Iran.

The Iranian Consulate General in the northern Iraqi region's capital, Erbil, handed over the protest note to the Kurdistan Region Government (KRG)'s Department of Foreign Relations to denounce the recent activities of terror groups in some border areas, IRNA reported on Wednesday.

The note of protest emphasized the Iranian Armed Forces' right to legitimate defense and confronting the epicenter of terror.

Siham Jabali Mamand from the KRG's foreign affairs arm expressed disappointment over the recent border developments in a meeting with a delegation of Iranian diplomats led by Deputy Consul General Siamak Borhani.

She further said the region would certainly not allow such incidents to overshadow the constructive and positive relations between Tehran and Erbil.

The Iraqi Kurdistan, the official added, has a strong will to develop and reinforce its ties with Iran, and that the region would not endanger its interests for the sake of any group or party.

Over the weekend, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) dismantled three terror groups seeking to infiltrate into the country in separate operations, killing several of them in the Oshnavieh and Sarvabad border areas in the province of Kordestan.

During the security operations, a considerable amount of explosives, weapons, and equipment was confiscated.
