Iranian blind judoka claims bronze in Para Asia
Jakarta, Iranian athlete, Omid Jafari, overcame his Indian opponent and won the third-place medal in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Omid Jafari, who had earned a first-round bye, defeated his opponent from Philippine in the second round and made way into the semi-finals.
He lost to Mirzayev from Uzbekistan and failed to reach the final.
In the third-place playoff, Jafari overcame his Indian rival in less than a minute and scored an ippon.
Uzbekistan's Mirzayev defeated his Korean opponent and snatched gold medal.
Overall, Iranian National blind and partially sighted Judo team bagged three bronze medals in four weights.
The third Asian Para Games, hosted by Jakarta, are held on October 8-16, with 2,880 athletes from 41 countries competing against each other in 13 categories.
Overall 685 medals will be awarded, out of which 300 medals will be given to female athletes, 343 to male athletes and 41 symbol pendants and necklaces will be awarded in mixed and team sports.
A total of 209 Iranian athletes have taken part in the games.
