Iran’s economy must not rely on Europe’s guarantee on JCPOA

Tehran, The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that Iran's economy must not be tied to Europe's guarantee on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached between Iran and G5+1 in 2015.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with President Hassan Rouhani and his cabinet members on Sunday morning.

According to the official website of the Leader's office, Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that Europe cannot be trusted without concrete guarantees, adding that: The country's economy must not rely on guarantees made by the European side.

At a meeting held upon Ayatollah Khamenei's invitation to President Rouhani and members of his cabinet, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution highlighted the capability of Iran for surpassing economic problems, thanks to the revolutionary and resistance spirit, hard and considerable efforts of the officials as well as cooperation on the part of the people.

His Eminence further pointed to the conditions and requirements for continuing progress and moving toward the goals.

Ayatollah Khamenei mentioned that the condition for achieving success in any arena is having a strong spirit, motivation, courage and determination; and said: In face of problems, all government officials must act with strong dynamism and with doubled conscientiousness.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution regarded the government's team of economy as the pivot and main actor for action and dynamism in the country and urged all other sectors to coordinate with the team.

He also called another condition for overcoming troubles, the manifestation of a sovereign image of the government, and stated: The image of the government in the eyes of the people must be the image of a capable, effective and endeavoring government; because an endeavoring attitude creates hope and morale in people.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution advised the radio and television as well as officials in the production of advertisements and propagation to set an appropriate image of the measures taken by the government and went on to say: At the same time, there is no problem with reasonable criticism of the government. While a great deal of rightful depiction of the government depends on how the officials actually act. That is, the officials must make close contact with the people, laborers and industries, actively getting involved with them.

Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the positions held by the Iranian president in Europe as manifesting sovereignty and added: Manifesting sovereignty and power before foreigners particularly the Americans is necessary and should be done promptly, explicitly, and assertively.

Seriously pursuing work by using the country's capabilities and opportunities was another recommendation of the Leader to the officials, further adding that: The European partners are responsible for providing necessary guarantees regarding the JCPOA; however, the economy of the country must not linger on waiting for the Europeans to offer guarantees for the JCPOA.

Stressing the necessity of developing diplomacy and relations with foreign countries, Ayatollah Khamenei stated: Except for a few cases such as the United States Iran's relations with other countries, including with the West and the East, must expand and further develop. The practical dynamism and goal-oriented plans of the diplomacy must further increase.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution continued with advice and guidelines for solving the economic problems. His Eminence regarded the preparation of a 'roadmap for a stable economy' as essential and added: If a roadmap is outlined, the public and those active in the economy will know how to act and will rush to help the government with a feeling of stability and calm.

Ayatollah Khamenei's two other recommendations on the matter were 'Reinforcement of the private sector' and 'the need to confront the outlaws'.

Regarding the latter, he pointed out examples of misdoings by some organizations and persons around the recent problems of foreign currencies and gold coins and insisted: It is imperative to confront the outlaws at any level.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution described the President's order yesterday to investigate the offences committed in importing foreign vehicles as a good measure and added: Such orders must, of course, be followed up to result in a conclusive outcome.

He noted that 'The government's overseeing and decision-making in financial transactions to prevent destructive operations such as trafficking and money laundering are absolutely necessary.

His Eminence pointed out some offences committed in using state-provided foreign currency and said: Such offences must be prevented by means of relevant systems of laws and regulations.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution tapped on more indices of a healthy economy by stating that: Enforcing resilient economic policies, prompt measures, prevention of maladies and real anti-corruption measures should be fulfilled.

Ayatollah Khamenei urged the government and officials in charge to primarily confront corruption and the corrupt, and secondly guarantee transparency in disclosure of information when dealing with corruption cases; he finally asserted: Of course, it falls upon those in charge at any organization to prevent corruption, and then the case has to be transferred to the judiciary.
