Iran’s junior weightlifter bags 3 World bronze medals
Tehran, Iranian weightlifter in 102 kg category Amir Azizi ranked third in the World Championships and won three bronze medals.
Weightlifters from across the world competed in 102 kg category in Fiji on the sixth day of the World Weightlifting Championships on Thursday.
Iran had 2 athletes in this category, including Amir Azizi with lifting 165 kg in snatch, 195 kg in clean and jerk and 360 kg in total bagged three bronze medals.
In this category, Georgia's weightlifter won the gold medal, and the Belarus representative also bagged silver.
Ali Qasemi, another Iranian athlete ranked fourth with a record of 150 kg in snatch, 187 kg in the clean and jerk, and a total of 337 kg.
Following the Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Fiji, Afshin Taheri in 96 kg category by lifting a total weight of 341 kg, ranked fourth in the World Weightlifting Championships.
The weightlifter won a silver medal in a 161 kilogram weightlifting after Ashur from Egypt.
In another development, an Iranian athlete won the silver medal of junior world weightlifting championships, bringing the runner up title for the country.
Mohammad Hosseini, 89 kg, won the gold in snatch and the bronze in clean and jerk, with an overall silver medal at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Junior World Championships in Fiji.
He is the championships' runner up after an athlete from Saudi Arabia. Another athlete from Poland won the bronze medal and came third.
The event kicked off on June 1 and will run until June 8 in Suva, the capital of the South Pacific country.
Hossein Soltani, another Iranian athlete in 81 kg won the bronze medal of the event and ranked third after athletes from Latvia and Colombia.
