Iran’s logic based on dialogue, interaction: FM spox
Tehran, Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Tuesday that Islamic Republic of Iran's logic is based on dialogue and interaction, demanding mutual respect and compliance with the international commitments, in contrast to sanctions and pressure.
He made the remarks after US President Donald Trump said on Monday that US is ready to hold talks with Iran without any precondition, adding that the fact that Trump has decided to change his rhetoric against Iran and abandon language of threat reveals his disappointment with the fruitless rhetoric.
However, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's later statements indicates turmoil and chaos in the US foreign policy, he said.
US proposal to hold talks with Iran is made at a time when it withdrew from the JCPOA without any justification, contravening all international regulations and re-imposed unfair sanctions against the Iranian nation, Qasemi said.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has proven in practice that it favors logic and dialogue and if it undertakes a commitment, it will remain committed to it, he said, questioning whether Trump can make such a claim.
Negotiations require conditions and necessities, no sign of which have yet been seen in Trump and colleagues' words and actions, Qasemi said.
While the US Department of the Treasury moves from one country to another to convince them to stop cooperation with Iran, how Trump can prove that his recent remarks were made out of a real resolve and not for demagogy? he asked.c
