Iran’s top negotiator optimistic on result of Vienna talks

Vienna, IRNA – Iranian top nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani has expressed hope that the eighth round of talks in Vienna, Austria, to lift anti-Iran sanctions would bear fruit.

Bagheri Kani made the remarks prior to departure to Palais Coburg in Vienna, in an interview with IRNA correspondent on Monday.

To a question on whether he is optimistic about the result of the negotiations, he answered that he would not have traveled to Vienna for the talks if it had been otherwise.

Sky News quoted Wang Qun, Chinese envoy to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, as saying that outstanding issues between Iran and the three European countries are being resolved and that it is possible the negotiating teams reach an agreement before February 2022.

Russian diplomat at Vienna talks Mikhail Ulyanov pointed to his meeting with representative of the European Union in the negotiations Enrique Mora, noting that the eighth round of talks in Vienna is probably the final one.

The Joint Commission meeting of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) started at Palais Coburg in Vienna, Austria, a few minutes ago to follow up removal of anti-Iran sanctions and revival of the 2015 nuclear deal.

The first meeting of the eighth round of Vienna talks is being held at the level of deputy foreign ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the P4+1 group (Britain, France, Russia, China plus Germany) as well as deputy secretary-general of the European Union.

Bagheri Kani is heading the Iranian delegation. The deputy foreign minister for political affairs had held bilateral and multilateral meetings with top negotiators of the P4+1 prior to the beginning of the eighth round of Vienna talks.

The Islamic Republic has announced since the beginning of the Vienna talks that Iranians seek an agreement as soon as possible. Tehran ruled out any pressure by the West, who wanted to force Iran to accept a deadline for the negotiations.

According to analysts, this round of talks is of great importance and seems to be the hardest one to see if the negotiating teams are serious to reach a consensus.
