Iraq not to turn into base for acts against neighbors: Salih

Baghdad, Iraqi President Barham Salih said on Thursday that his country cannot accept to turn into a base for any act to bother neighbors and create tension in the region.

Speaking during a meeting in Baghdad with Iranian ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi, the Iraqi president urged the need for lowering tensions in the region, underlining the necessity of collective efforts to fight extremism and terrorism to ensure a bright future for regional nations.

Referring to social and cultural links and joint security and economic interests between Iran and Iraq, Salih reiterated that Baghdad is resolved to promote bilateral relations with Tehran.

He also appreciated Iran's support for the Iraqi armed forces during years of war against Daesh terrorist group and said that Iraq tries to be a place of convergence of joint interests of regional governments and nations.
