Iraqi Army Forces Patrol Mosul’s Qadisiya Neighborhood against ISIS
The Iraqi Army on Monday said it had taken control of the Qadisiya 2 neighborhoods in eastern Mosul from Islamic State terrorist group (ISIS / Daesh / ISIL / IS) militants.
Footage taken by a freelance cameraman patrolling with Iraqi soldiers showed houses damaged in the fighting and civilians leaving the area.
Standing next to the body of a dead ISIS fighter, one Iraqi soldier said the militants had been shooting from inside nearby houses, trying to stop troops from advancing into the suburb.
The soldiers were seen talking to some of the civilians, trying obtain information about the militants.
So far, nearly 70,000 civilians have fled the city according to United Nations figures.
Hundreds of thousands of civilians, however, are estimated to still be inside Mosul as the Iraqi government has encouraged residents to stay put to avoid massive humanitarian displacement
