Iraqi Army Operation to Take Village near Mosul

The Iraqi Army's 9th division has moved into the village of Umarkan, about 30 kilometres (18 miles) southeast of Mosul, on Saturday.

Footage provided by the Iraqi Ministry of Defence shows helicopters firing rockets at the village, as armoured vehicles and soldiers move closer and a gun battle unfolds; AP reported.

Iraqi troops have been fighting in eastern Mosul for over two weeks, but many of the outlying areas remain in the hands of the Islamic State ( ISIS / ISIL / Daesh / IS ) group fighters.
