Iraqi Army Troops Push towards Mosul against Islamic State Militants

Iraqi forces continued their offensive towards Mosul on Wednesday, as part of the operation to retake Iraq's second largest city from Islamic State (ISIS / Daesh / ISIL / IS) militants.

Iraqi troops advanced near the liberated village of Al-Qasr, seven kilometers (4.3 miles) south of Mosul, to capture strategic hilltop positions guarding the southern entry to the besieged city.

The government last month launched a massive campaign to retake Mosul, captured by ISIS terrorist group in 2014. It is the extremist group's last major urban center in Iraq.
