Italy Coast Guard Rescue nearly 800 Migrants off Coast of Libya
The Italian Coast Guard rescued at least 791 migrants off the coast of Libya on Sunday, Al-Alam News Network reports.
The operations, which took place on Sunday with the Italian Coast Guard and other ships, also recovered 16 bodies.
In the video, which was released on Monday, migrants are seen being transferred from a rubber boat to an Italian Coast Guard ship.
Ships "Diciotti" of the Italian Coast Guard, "Samuel Beckett' of the Irish Navy and Aquarius of the NGO "SOS Mediterranee" pulled the migrants to safety from five rubber dinghies and four small boats sailing towards the European coast.
According to the UN High Commission for Refugees, as of 5 December, 350,555 migrants have arrived in Europe via the central Mediterranean route, while thousands have died in the attempt to cross the sea.
