Kurdish Fighters Preparing for Assault against ISIS Militants in Syria’s Raqqa
Two videos released by a Kurdish news outlet on Sunday claim to show US-backed, Kurdish-led fighters preparing to launch an offensive on the Syrian city of Raqqa, which is also the Islamic State terrorist group's (ISIS / Daesh / ISIL / IS) de facto capital.
The footage released by Hawar News Agency on social media shows fighters dancing and celebrating before heading to battle.
The videos show several convoys of trucks mounted with weapons in addition to standard armored vehicles.
Sunday's footage was filmed on the same day that the Kurdish-led coalition, also known as the Syrian Democratic Forces, announced the beginning of an operation to liberate Raqqa.
On Monday, The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said fighting was under way north of Raqqa between ISIS and members of the US-backed coalition.
