Light tremor jolts SW Iran

Tehran, An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale jolted Ghaemieh in southern western Province of Fars on Thursday.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 5:15 hours local time (00:45 GMT) in an area located at 29.76 degrees latitude and 51.39 degrees longitude and in the depth of 14km underground.

The epicenter of the quake was registered at 22km of Ghaemieh, 22 km of Khesht and 25 km of Kenar Takhteh.

No report on possible damage to life or properties has been released yet.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
