Minister urges Muslim unity in face of regional challenges

Tehran, Aug 7, Overcome challenges in the Middle East and ending disputes in the region could only be achieved through uniting the Muslim World, an Iranian Minister said on Monday.

Iran's Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Reza Salehi Amiri in a meeting with Grand Mufti of Azerbaijan Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazadeh said that the two countries share interests and enjoy various commonalities, and as a result talks between Iran and Azerbaijan has turned to be effective and constructive.

'The two countries' views in the realm of culture and religion are based on a single concept: unity,' Salehi Amiri added.

The Azerbaijani Mufti also emphasized the commonalities between the two Muslim countries and stressed using them to fight terrorism and to overcome differences.

'Unfortunately, the Islamophobia propaganda is on the rise and the Takfiri ideologies are targeting the Shia Muslims, particularly Iran and Azerbaijan,' he added, saying that holding events to promote solidarity between the two countries could help neutralize the plots.

On Sunday, Tehran hosted a conference on Islamic solidarity, attended by high-ranking cultural officials from Iran and Azerbaijan.
