Missiles are Iran’s main defensive asset: IRGC
Tehran, Missiles are Iran's defensive asset and main elements of the country's deterrent power, said on Monday Brigadier General Hossein Salami Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC).
We can never accept the disarmament of our deterrent capabilities, General Salami said, addressing the ceremony held in the Iranian capital to mark the Persian Gulf National Day.
Americans follow a strategy of creating a security enigma and balance of power in the West Asia and the Persian Gulf region, he said referring to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's trip to Saudi Arabia and his allegations against Iran.
US raises security concerns to maintain its dominance over Arab governments in the region and to create a permanent need for its presence in the southern Persian Gulf states and West Asia, he said.
Today US considers Iran as a threat, regarding the security enigma formula it is promoting in the region, while continuing to allege that Iran is supporting terrorism, the IRGC general added.
This is while the entire world knows that Iran is a pioneer in the fight against terrorism, Salami stressed.
He went on to laud Iran's efforts to put an end to Daesh (ISIS) hegemony in Iraq and Syria.
US President Donald Trump earlier announced that Daesh had been created by his predecessor [Barack] Obama and his administration, a fact even admitted by Hillary Clinton and other US officials, he said.
US tends to portray Iran as a threat against Arab countries and create its own philosophy for its presence in the region, the IRGC commander said.
The US approach is aimed at balancing Iran's power dominance in the region, Salami added.
If US be successful to promote it ends, it will be able to sell its arms to Arab countries and earn hundreds of billions dollars to compensate for its economic depression, he said.
Iran has never been a sponsor of terrorism rather the country has always been on the frontline of confronting it, he said.
We have never threatened any country and respected territorial integrity of all countries and recognized their independence, he added.
If we support Ansarallah in Yemen, this is because they are oppressed, Salami reiterated.
If Iran supports Syria against terrorism, this is because Syrian government has called for Iran's help, he added.
